Marvin Crespin-Gamez

Marvin born and raised in Los Angeles, California, specifically the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of South Central LA. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of California at Riverside in June 2012 with a major in Latin American Studies. Shortly after, he was selected to be part of the team designed to re-launch Peace Corps’ operations in Nepal after an eight year absence sparked by the nation’s civil war. As a Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV), Marvin was assigned to implement a USAID-funded food security project initiated by President Obama’s Feed the Future Initiative. Through this project, he examined nutritional issues amongst pregnant women and children under the age of 5 years-old in the Western Hills of Nepal. It was his Peace Corps experience and previous global health work that solidified his career and personal interests in the fields of public health and international development. He was recently accepted into the USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship Program, which is designed to increase excellence and diversity within the Foreign Service. As a rising USAID Technical Health Officer, Marvin is pursuing his MPH at UC Berkeley, taking curriculum that can be applied ot his future career in global health development.
